I watched GYMKHANA_TEN and thought it was great, but really it just made me want to build an insaniacal super-machine like the Hoonitruck. So that’s what we’re gonna do: show me your ultimate dream Gymkhana build.
You need a base car, a powertrain, and “skin”, pretty much the livery of your car plus wheels. It’s all you need to provide—the specifics of the build are pretty much given. A maximum of two builds will be presented.
My two cars shall be...
A widebody Lancia Stratos with LaFerrari V12 power and DRS, dressed in Alitalia livery.
Plus...
Trophee Andros BMW M2 with a twin-turbo E60 M5 engine revving to 11,000rpm. Dressed in the current factory BMW M livery (like in the M8 GTE), wearing

wheels.
That’s mine. What’s yours?

It has to be something you’d never expect to be able to do the things he does with the cars. So, to that end I’d take one of the old Camry All-Tracs and shove in the drivetrain from the Celica rally cars. Then I’d do it up in these colors:

Rally Kharmann Ghia powered by a 911 Turbo S AWD powertrain.

Skin it, however.

Well, since we know I’ve got real engineering chops...
Honestly, if I was going to build a Gymkhana machine, there’s two fundamental problems. One, look at all of the Hoonigan builds again - they’re all 4WD or AWD. Two, it’s all actually very low speed - Ken’s bouncing the rev-limiter hard in first gear.
So I need something that can light the tires through the entire RPM range, lots of torque, in a chassis with room for a transfer case or center differential.
Bam. ‘Sleeper’ monster. We already know these will easily fit an LA block V8. 360 (aka 5.9,) fuel injected, and roots blown so the hood only needs a ‘power bulge’ for clearance. Possibly a 5.7/6.1 Hemi instead to save a bit of weight. Plenty of room for the 4WD components. Already a floor mounted shifter setup using a 5 speed core . Rather than an obvious tube frame, retain the ladder core. See that roll bar? Front and rear tube and cage all building off that visual element and heavily stealthed.
Gives you 600ft/lbs+ in 3000lbs before weight reduction that most people would never see coming.

Base car is an XJ-C v12
I’m sure that the AWD system from an Evoque would fit given enough time and money. Add the V12 from the Vantage GT3 car and you have yourself a winner.

Ijust want to know how that AWD setup works

My Cabriolet,
Two transverse LS4s, one in the front one in back.
For the livery I’d take inspiration from the classic two stripe red/white Marlboro liveries, but in the OEM Mars Red (Orange) instead of red.
It would be stupid, but that’s kind of the point.

I like that

Let me try this again...Kinja doesn’t seem to want to post anything with pictures for me
My realistic build is an early ‘90s flareside regular cab short bed RWD 5-speed F150 with the I6...lower the truck and turbo the I6
My anything goes build is a Group B Audi Quattro with full rally livery with the engine from the R8.

I’ve always wanted to build one of these, in olive drab with a yellow roll cage ...
With the complete drivertrain from this
underneath:
Or really, just put a Thing body on a 993 turbo and turn it up to 11 .
![]() 12/18/2018 at 11:55 |

I see we have similar ideas. Mine involves a 993 Turbo and a Thing.

Im building mine currently.
E46 330ci chassis and drivetrain. (Kinjad)
Skoda Felicia Pickup Body.
At the moment I ‘m stripping down the E46.

Who said the Stratos is gonna be AWD? I wanna live dangerously, so that mofo stays RWD.

1986 S1 Quattro, 5 cylinder turbo feeding power through a modern sequential AWD system, in the white/gray/red livery from the IMSA 90 Quattro.

Problem is that Porsches outside of the turbo are rather lacking in torque. :(

Because if the Hoonicorn/truck is anything to go by, money ain’t an issue for these guys.

no I meant on the hoonitruck

That is an Amazing Idea. I wonder if i could do the same with an SN-95 Mustang and a Rabbit pickup...

why not this driver train https://www.foxnews.com/auto/crashed-1987-porsche-959-heading-to-auction-could-be-worth-500000

The size difference between the stang and rabbit would make it difficult (the E46 and Skoda are the same width give or take a few milimetres) but it’s not impossible. Best to use a convertible base car because then you don't lose all its strength when the roof comes off.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 13:58 |
|
yeah the mustang is a good 6 inches wider, 65 inches vs 71. that could be a problem.
the wheelbase however is actually 2 inches longer on the Rabbit 101 inches vs 103 . It wouldn’t be too complicated to take that length out of the bed forward of the wheels.
![]() 12/18/2018 at 14:34 |

Same as the Hoonicorn. T-case off the trans, driveshaft to the front diff and out to the wheels. Hence one of the reasons the engines sit so far back.

Yeah definitely possible. If you become insane enough to take on such a project, I'd love to see the build thread :P

dang, all you kids must be reading my mail....... i have had it in the works since one of my REAL good friends was threatening to build a fiberglass t-bucket. i decided to build a REAL ford model T that would have enough run to take his in a race. so i started to source my pile of parts around then for the T build. i rounded up a coup le of frames, and tall 27 T coupe bodies...... not nearly as nice as the ones in these pictures....
but very similar....... about this same time the dodge demon was coming out, and i got into a good argument over the ET times. my friend was saying how impressive it all was. i said meh. and proceeded to explain how i would be able to outrun one using half the hp, provided i weighed a little less than half of a demon.
and it was at this point that my build started to snowball, and i decided to make the T a 4 wheel drive car to know that i would have no traction issues, and i rounded up a divorced transfer box out of an old dodge truck. i rounded up another manual muncie 4speed, and i have gotten the parts piled up to assemble a 361 small block chevy engine( 4.155 bore x 3.33 stroke)....... still need to round up the 4x4 axles.
the plan is, though to end up with a LOW slung, 4x4, model T, with a manual 4 speed, with nice fat wide tires all the way around. should hook and go real nice on just about any surface. or if i put some rags on it for tires, should slide all day long.......

Vehicle #1. Take Hoonitruck, remove 70's body and EcoBoost, add second generation Lightning body and 5.0, done.
Vehicle #2. 30's Model A pickup hotrod, twin charged flathead.
